Friends President Bush and Prime Minister al-Maliki have made a joint statement relating to a partnership of Democracy between the U.S. and Iraq. Without providing specifics committees are being formed to determine and actuate a self-determining Iraq.
There are way too many people and national agendas that do not a Democratic unified Iraq. The Democratic Party of America would rather leave Iraq and watch it disintegrate like South Vietnam did. There are huge contingents of Iraqis that hate each other fueled by Mohammedan outsiders that cannot stand to see an American success to engage Democracy in the Middle East.
If there are truly moderate Mohammedans that wish to have a strong self-determining government, democracy is the way. Can the Sunnis who have been used to the favor of Islamofascist rule overcome their dread of a Shia majority? Can the nationalistic minded Kurds overcome the pain of persecution by both Sunni and Shia? Can the Shia develop a realm of consensus instead of retribution and anger for being the target of Saddam's Islamofascism?
This can all happen for the good if the Mohammedans can think consensus rather than tribal and ideological differences. After all the concept of the Umma (or Community) of Mohammedans is supposed to be as central in their Quran as their hatred is for kafir and dhimmis. Once an Umma is developed in Iraq, then foreign insurgents must be dealt with.
This is what makes a Bush/al-Maliki statement so important.
