America Should Help Re-Militarize Japan

There is a geopolitical confrontation beginning to emerge with China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Latin American Marxists and Islamofascist terrorists lining up one side and America (along with many of America's reluctant allies) are lining up on another side.

Due to oil dependence much of Western world is riding the fence concerning the threat of Mohammedanism to Western culture. The oil glitch dependence has motivated China and Russia to re-assert themselves in global influence. The nation naturally standing in the way is America.

Gary J. Schmitt and Dan Blumenthal have written an essay indicating that
Japan's new Prime Minister - Shinzo Abe - might be the best thing to happen to American national interests. Abe won his office on the campaign to alter the peace Article Nine in the Japanese Constitution.

The snag is Japanese imperialist history that was not nice to Asia or to America. There are some in America that mistrust a re-armed militarist Japan. Definitely all of Asia mistrusts a re-armed militarist Japan.

However a powerful military Japan will offset the intrusions of China and Russia on the global scene. I think a militarist Japan is a gamble that America has to roll with. Only time will tell if it is the correct roll.

I agree with you. Unlike the Islamists, the Japanese learned a big lesson during WWII. They grew out of the head-lopping stage into a civilized society. We need to support them. It is good that we are working with them on a missile defense system, but we could do even more.

I agree we could do more. It is in America's national interests to do more. But I wonder, is the world ready for a Japan that in the process of re-arming added nuclear WMD to their arsenal to defend themselves ostensibly from China and N. Korea?

Asians can be brutal in war whether they are good guys or bad guys. Asians do not have a concept of a just war, rather Asians have a concept of is the war one that can be won.

Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and so all have records of brutality to achieve their goals. If any of these guys went nuclear or are nuclear, I would wish and hope to be on the side of the nation that likes us.
