America Needs to be Watchful of any India/China Friendship

India and China have reopened the ancient silk trade route for modern day trade between the two Asian giants.

The National Interests of America are keen to examine any rapprochement between India and China. Both nations are part of the nuclear weapon club and are emerging in strength economically.

President Bush has gone to great lengths to court a strengthening alliance with India. India has a successful democratic infrastructure and has had conflicts with both Mohammedans and China over the years. That makes India ideal for partnership. On the other hand, American politics has strained its relationship with India in the past primarily due to India's nuclear ambitions. America would be wise to forget that irritation and move on to stroking a friend to the level of Britain.

China is obviously building to a point of asserting itself against America. I am uncertain of their end goals of that assertion. It could merely be a regional domination thing which would mean expectations America to leave Taiwan and Southeast Asia alone. Or in the worse case scenario, China's end game may be the top dog globally. That would be much more serious threat to American National Interests.

An India-China alliance would be a devastating international political blow for America. America and Japan need to display some major hands of friendship quickly with India to counterweight China.
