Californian Episcopalians Elect Heterosexual over Homosexual as Bishop

The Episcopalian Church in San Francisco entered a situation in which they had to replace a retiring Bishop. There were three homosexuals (of which one was a lesbian) on the ballot among many other candidates.

The Episcopalian Church in America is part of the world wide Anglican communion headed by the Arch Bishop of Canterbury in London, England. A significant number of Anglicans (not necessarily in England) were contemplating leaving the Anglican communion if America elected yet another homosexual as a Bishop.

To make matters worse for the Episcopalian Church in America, on a national level several Episcopalian Churches were threatening to dissolve association with the San Francisco Episcopate if a homosexual was elected.

Needless to say there was a huge crisis within the Anglican Communion all due to liberal thinking within a portion the American Anglican Communion.

The Anglican Communion dodged a bullet because a heterosexual was elected as Bishop to replace outgoing Bishop William Swing. Rev. Mark Andrus of Alabama was elected to become the next Episcopalian Bishop in San Francisco.

Personally I believe this is just a plug for a hole in the dyke (no pun intended). The Episcopalian Church has an openly gay Bishop on the east coast, so it has not recanted homosexuality as sin. Divisions that will strike the Episcopalian Church is an issue that all Churches will have to take a public stand on eventually. It is dividing time for sheep and goats in the Christian faith.
