Thompson’s in the Race and Ties with Giuliani for Top Spot

LOS ANGELES: Fred Thompson did not enter the 2008 presidential race Tuesday, but he talked like he was getting close to jumping in. Asked by Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" if he'd like America's top job, the former Tennessee senator said, "I've never craved the job of president, but I want to do some things that only a president can do." "So," Thompson added, "the answer is yes." (International Herald Tribune – June 13, 2007)

I am ecstatic that Thompson is in the Race for the Republican nomination. Now comes the tough part, especially since entering a race tied for the top in the popularity polls. Giuliani and McCain will certainly take of their gloves and explain their experience in leadership. Romney could make the same claim but I think Mitt’s Mormonism will hurt him vis-a-vie a Thompson Candidacy.

Then there is the Left. I am certain the Clinton garbage diggers are hard at work as we speak.

A
Rasmussen Poll released yesterday had Thompson and Giuliani tied at 24% a piece in the Republican poll.
