I am a bit surprised that Saddam Hussein was not taken by Iraqis and summarily shot. Hussein was a disgusting genocidal murderer. His sons were butchers in training. They actually were serial rapists protected by daddy.
Hussein was convicted and sentenced to death for only a small share of his own people that he murdered. The Shi’ites and the Kurds poured into the streets in celebration. The minority Iraqi Sunnis poured into the streets in protest.
It will be interesting what happens in Iraq next. Many think the Sunnis will embark on a true civil war to sever from Shi’ite and Kurd influence. I read that Hussein’s lead defense Attorney said that hell will open wide with Hussein’s death sentence.
I think 2/3 of the Iraq would enter chaos if Hussein was not executed.
The irony of ironies is that Europe is dominated by an ideology that is against the death penalty. Many Western European leaders are protesting the death sentence. A hanging will be a mercy killing for Hussein. He would be tortured and killed in prison by the inmates.
