Turkey has been hailed as an example of secularist democratic government in a Mohammedan society. With an Islamist Prime Minister and President working hand in hand together, it appears that the secularist institutions initiated by modern Turkey’s founding father Ataturk may be coming to an end.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slowly whittling away what forms of democracy Turkey had institutionalized. Erdogan is on the path to dictatorship and the only thing that might stop that is the Turkish military that has traditionally been loyal to the Ataturk vision of a Mohammedan Turkish Secular Society.
